I'm starting in on a Verin and Erebus short #story for an anthology where the stories are from the villain's POV. I love my villains, so I'm very excited to #write this one. I already wrote a Desdemona short story for it. Got my music going, and I'm already a few pages in. From my music "fifty words for murder and I am every one of them." That does sound like Verin.

Day 11 of #WIPjoy is to let a side character tell you about the most pain (physical or emotional) they've been in. From Quiz: "When I still lived in the north, still sailed, my friend, Gull, sailed with me. We were friends since we were kids, growing up in the king's court, making fun of the princes behind their back. *He chuckles and grins a gap-toothed smile* and when they king took to the sea, we both signed up to go. When we came to Athera, we hit the taverns for some relaxation. Two days in, I'm minding my business and having a drink, and an ox of a man hits me from behind. Turns out, I had supposedly been with his wife. If he was goin' to kill me over it, it'd be nice to at least have the memories of doing it. Gull had never been one to care whether his conquests were married or not. Turns out he didn't care about throwing me in the mud so he didn't get himself killed. That pain was the worst emotional pain I've been through. Now, I won't tell you about the physical pains I survived through in the Pit when they arrested me. #WIPjoy day 10 is to let the antagonist share their happiest memory. In Devouring, Erebus actually plays quite a large part, so I'll let him share with you. "My life has been like trying to walk through a pit of sand vipers. Then Verin came along, and he introduced the sicarius (and extremely venomous breed of spider with a large range of venom that do all manner of terrible things to humans) to the vipers. Then Lumi came and shed light into that pit, and they all scurried back to their holes. *He sighs and tips his head back to look at the ceiling* She was chained up, but the shackles couldn't stop her hold in her snark. Oh, she hated me. *He chuckles and grins, bearing his pointed teeth* I've never had a woman talk to me the way she did. I fell in love with her with the first insult." #WIPjoy day 6. Describe something for each of the senses. This was kind of difficult. Sight: The sweeping plains of the northern countries. Tall, golden grass swaying in the wind, wispy clouds skimming across the pale sky. Smell: Smoke curling from the burning embers of the oak hovels, mingling with the salt breeze from the ocean nearby to burn your throat. Taste: Blood, coppery on your tongue. Touch: A cold hand on your chest, fingers like ice, nails cutting into your flesh. Sound: A scream piercing through the still air.

I forgot I was doing this #WIPjoy yesterday, so here's my two days worth of posts. Day 1: My WIP is Devouring. It's the third book in the Obsidian Embers Trilogy and centers around the conflict between the rebels and the Order coming to a head. Day 2: Introduce my main character. I'll focus on Zahir, but I write from other POVs. Zahir is a former desert nomad who finds himself imprisoned upon entering Ashet, the capital city of the country of Athera. After that, through mishaps and misfortune, he gets mixed up in the rebel side of a fight he didn't even know exists, let alone want to be a part of. But by book three, he's fully invested in the outcome.

My favorite bit of #editing on chapter 11 of Waxing, book two of the Obsidian Embers Trilogy. I love these side characters more than I probably should. * Just as Zenovia started to rise, the soldier noisily walked back into camp. Zenovia ducked again, cursing softly as Quiz suppressed a laugh behind his long-fingered hand. The soldier briefly fixed his brown-eyed gaze on them, and Zenovia’s stomach dropped. Without any indication that he had seen them, he turned and ducked inside the small tent sitting a ways from the fire. Quiz leaned over to her and whispered, “You know this is crazy? He could kill you.” “Maybe he’s a scout?” “Still could kill you.” He smirked at her, almost triumphant that her plan was failing. With a sneer, Zenovia gestured to the clearing. “Kill him first.” “What?” His brows shot up at the words. “You’ve told me how you killed that one man.” With a satisfied smile, she said, “Kill this one.” “That was different!” “How?” “Self-defense. A small excerpt from my editing of Waxing this morning. This is the introductory moment of a minor character who plays a large role in things. * Quella turned down the wide main street that led to the palace, never seeing the black bundle until she almost tripped over it. She threw her hands up, wind whipping around her. The bundle shifted and hands flashed palms up, a tiny whine escaping from inside the cloth. Quella lowered her hands and quickly dismissed her wind, taking a small step back. Slowly, the person lowered the hood of their cloak, a long flow of snowy white hair cascading around her shoulders. My resolutions are: finish editing Waxing, actually start in on book 3 seriously, finish book 3 by the end of the year, read more books, move into a bigger house to accommodate my sister living with me now, keep working on my mental health and becoming the person I want to be.
